Morning walk

I've been enjoying this cooler weather, by taking a morning walk with the dogs. When my daughter was here with her doggies it was quite a different walk. But this morning it was just me and my two pooches. So armed with my cup o coffee, and iPhone off we go. I am so lucky to have the creek run through our farm. This years abundant rains feel like a luxury compared to last years drought. The fields are lush and green. I need to mow but I've so enjoyed the wild things that have been growing. So here are a few photos from this area of Indiana on a summers morning.

Garden

Well I've done it! I have seemed to find a way to step a little closer to that eccentric  old woman living in the country! This year while planning my garden I was a little sidetracked. You see when they put in the new geothermal, the dug up oh about 500 feet starting to the left of my back door all the way out to the fence then into the pasture beyond the fence. Going through my garden spot of years past! No worries I thought I'd just till it up and go on. Well the top soil was no where to be found just hard clay! So I just planted a few beans, tomatoes scattered some lettuce seeds, zinnias ect just to see what would happen. Then I got busy and forgot about it. With all the rain this year it always seemed to be a mud mess when I went to weed. I wasn't that motivated. Well now here it is time for harvest to begin. I took a peak here and there cut some very pretty zinnias, found a mess of beans for dinner tonight for 2 with little red potatoes smoked sausage  little onion into the crock pot! Will be great with the little cherry tomatoes from the garden as well! So below are pics of the little garden, and today's catch!  Yep weeds almost as high as the old outhouse in the back ground! It's my favorite garden so far! No I won't be putting up anything from this garden this year but I've been loving going to the farmers market anyway. Can't say ill miss all those days weeding ect.. And it's a treasure hunt each time I go and look in the garden. Seems as though the critters haven't found the goodies! Puts new meaning to no hassle gardening my friends ! Oh yes and the milk weed this year is Devine .

Farmers market

Recently, our little town liberty Indiana has started a Friday evening farmers market. It is so lovely. Last evening I went in to get a few things for dinner to go with our left over hamburger we were going to have as burgers on the grill. I came home with a sack of ripe tomatoes, a dozen ( 13) sweet corn, a homemade peach pie, and a little $2.00 bunch of garden flowers. Our dinner was so enhanced by all the delicious produce. And yes my weakness for fresh flowers. I have a $5.00 bunch of gladiolas on the dinning room table, very grand indeed. It's my bad habit! I've been known to make a stunning arrangement of roadside lilies, and Queen Anne s lace. My favorite. And right now seems like all the wild flowers are in bloom. They take turns in my back field as well. Sometimes joe pie weed, milk weed, or this time blue coneflower otherwise known as chicory. We are getting ready for an afternoon thunderstorm. We could really use one to give Mother Nature a brake of the almost daily upper 90s heat wave. I got to see Michael Franti last Thursday evening. What a treat if your not familiar with his music I urge you too look him up. It was a wonderful evening. Young old, black, white, jumping, clapping, singing together. Perfect  just what I needed to restore my faith in people coming together for fun. And I got to have my picture taken with him as well! I love a guy who can rock the dreads and bare feet look! The tickets were for my birthday back in may what a great gift. Something I needed and could use up in one evening!

July farm camp 2013

It's over for this year! And I loved every moment of them both! The kids, the parents, the creek, the dogs, the pool, my friends, the food, the tractor that started every time, the old hay wagon, the crafts, the fish, the craw dads, everything !

Where ever I go I am not alone!

Sometimes with my morning coffee, I read blogs! Much better than the news! Anyway today's pics are of my company on the sofa this morning. Most times if I can I am outside doing this. But it's a little cool and damp out today. Boy do I feel for those out west suffering from the record heat. Bu today and for the last week I've been thinking about change and why we make the decisions we do? What holds us back from making change? For me I guess it must be fear. But fear of what? The unknown ? After the big carbon monoxide scare of this winter it seems silly to contemplate too much about some major changes.... Hey there was distinct possibility that I might not even be here at all right now! After having a few health scares over the years , thank God they were only scares it starts  to make one think about life ..... And right now is one of those times when I feel like I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I know better but I guess we all have our flaws and that is certainly one of mine. So today I am going to enjoy my company, read some blogs and try to nail down some indecision .... And get started on and Finnish up some projects.

A vacation day!

Sunday came with a garden tour in the morning, and wow some were so amazing! I was hoping to be inspired and I was. Only now I want that pond more then ever!  So I've included some beautiful gardens in this blog as well as the afternoon activities ..... I took Will to his first ever .... Wait for it..... Horse pull at our local fair! I was so surprised when 12 teams of horses were there and ready to pull. Complete with the old men drivers, owners! I've got a thing for old men. I swear maybe because its a generational thing but there is always an older gentleman with the team of horses. All in all it was a wonderful day complete with a nap during a gentle storm in the middle of the day!

Little vs big!

Sometimes I so wish I lived in an urban setting with a tiny little green space. All done up with my favorite plants. Ever changing ! Weeding would take 5 min ect... Today I tackled the front entrance area before the gates into our farm. The gates are there to keep in horses llamas, and to keep out people. Many years ago we put out some large stones ect. For several years I've had out there an old plow and an iron kettle for flowers. I've even put in some bulbs for spring. A Virginia creeper has come in on her own. She is so pretty in the fall. So here is the before and after! Little projects that's what I am working on this week!
